Toby Wright Scholarship Application Kids’ Chance NM Renewal Application What is the Toby Wright Scholarship Fund?It is a fund established by the Workers’ Compensation Association, in conjunction with insurers, employers, attorneys, labor, medical and rehabilitation groups. The purpose of the Toby Wright Memorial Fund is to provide scholarships for youths of permanently or catastrophically injured or deceased workers to complete their education.
Which Children are eligible for the scholarships?
Children who had a parent who was permanently or catastrophically injured or killed in an employment-related accident, resulting in a New Mexico worker’s compensation claim. Must be a resident of New Mexico between the ages of 16 and 25. Must attend a New Mexico College, University or Trade School leading to a professional certification.
What are the Criteria for the scholarship?
The parent’s death or injury must have resulted in a substantial decline in the family income. The applicant must be between the ages of 16 and 25. The applicant must maintain a grade point average of 2.5 with a minimum of 12 credit hours or better to re-apply every semester/quarter.
When do I apply?
Toby Wright Scholarships are awarded prior to the beginning each quarter and or semester. Applicants must submit a Budget prior to each semester/quarter. Applications can be made during a students’ high school senior year. Students must submit copies of each semester/quarter transcripts along with receipts covering expenses as agreed to by the committee. High School students must also supply their High School transcript with their application.
How long is this scholarship for?
This scholarship is good for a semester/quarter, but the applicant may reapply at the end of each semester/quarter. renewals are contingent on availability of funds.
What does the scholarship cover?
Scholarship may cover items such as Tuition, Books, Housing, Meals and Course fees. Based on the budget submitted the scholarship review committee will make the awards as deemed necessary. Students must attach with their application copies of the Federal Application for Student Aid (F.A.F.S.A.) application.
